Kiszivárgást megelőzve, a kitűzött megjelenés előtt egy héttel, Lady Gaga úgy döntött, hogy hivatalosan is kiadja novemberben érkező Artpop albumának első kislemezét, az Applause-t. USA-ban már megkapták a rádiók, azonban iTunes-ra csak később kerül majd fel (világ többi részéről információ még nincs, de nagy eltérés nem lehet a megjelenések között).
Applause televíziós premierje az augusztus 25-én tartandó MTV Video Music Awards-on lesz.
